Pea (Fabaceae) family.

Plant: Shrub or small tree, generally spreading from underground parts. Leaves: odd-1-pinnate, alternate, deciduous, stipuled. INFLORESCENCE: raceme, axillary; pendent or not. Flowers: calyx bell-shaped, lobes 5; petals 5, 2-2.5 cm, white or pink, banner reflexed; 9 filaments fused, 1 free. Fruit: legume, thick, not winged, dehiscent. Misc: Canyons in pinyon/juniper woodland; < 1500 m.; Apr-Aug.
