Buckwheat (Polygonaceae) family.
Plant: Annual forb to 2 m tall grows in wet soils. Stems with prominent sheaths at nodes, swollen at nodes. Leaves: lanceolate, veins arching upward.. Inflorescences at the ends of branches, nodding or drooping, 1-6cm long. Flowers: white. Fruit obovate, usually flattened w/one side convave; black and shiny.
